The most frequent cause of conjunctivitis is bacteria which spread easily from hand kerchief, towel, tissues, wet hands, etc. and thereafter get transferred from one person to another, or one eye to another, whenever these objects are handled.types of conjunctivitis

Viral conjunctivitis also spreads the same way, but only in the wet state. Humid cities which are near bay areas are more likely to be effected with conjunctivitis and infective period lasts longer, more which also accounts for the monsoon period. Fortunately when the weather dries up the virus also dies.  No vaccines are available at present as the virus tends to mutate thus making resistance to the organism difficult. Antibiotics like Gatifloxicin and Mixifloxicin can be used effectively for bacterial conjunctivitis.
