How to calm cranky crying baby

It may take you some time to understand why your baby is crying as its not always to communicate hunger that the babies howl. There may be other reasons behind the baby becoming cantankerous. Here are some tips to know how to calm your cranky baby.

How to calm a cranky baby

  • Babies fuss when uncomfortable or to blow off steam
  • Sometimes it’s OK to let babies “cry it out” – not always
  • Use touch, sound and movement.
  • A fussy baby can also be a sign that the infant is experiencing gas. Gas usually isn’t dangerous, but it can be uncomfortable for a baby. You can give them drops or put their legs up
  • If I have a cranky baby, I check to see if they are wet or have a soiled diaper. I figure out how long it’s been since they’ve had their last nourishment
  • Most babies feel calmed from the repetitive hum of being pushed in a stroller, rocked in a swing, or cuddled in a baby carrier while you take a walk outside (goodness knows you could use the fresh air anyway)
  • Some mischievous, naughty infant may just feel neglected, if you leave them alone for long and cry to be held. Carry them in a sling or baby carrier so that you can move about with your baby and yet get the work done.
  • If the babies are very tired, they might cry themselves to sleep. Massaging them can help them soothe too, in such cases. They are usually their happy self after the restful nap.
  • It has been observed that cranial osteopaths can gently massage baby’s head and neck to soothe them after a difficult birth experience
