VLDL cholesterol and its reference values

Very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol is one of the three major type of lipoproteins in the blood. It is important to know your blood cholesterol levels after the age of 35 , Cholesterol levels can be determined by a simple blood test, but make sure you are on fasting for 8-9 hrs before this blood test.HDL is considered to be the good cholesterol and it can be increased by changing your lifestyle like exercising , invloving in outdoor games etc.
Following are the reference ranges for cholesterol values

Total cholesterol

Below 200 mg/dL              Desirable
200-239 mg/dL                 Borderline high
240 mg/dL and above       High

LDL cholesterol

Below 100 mg/dL          Optimal
100-129 mg/dL                Near optimal
130-159 mg/dL                 Borderline high
160-189 mg/dL                 High
190 mg/dL and above     Very high

Triglycerides

Below 150 mg/dL                   Desirable
150-199 mg/dL                      Borderline high
200-499 mg/dL                     High
500 mg/dL and above         Very high
